Little Details That Make a Difference

 

Travel Documents
Before traveling, make sure you have ALL travel documents updated and in hand.

 

Passport

•  Recommend application time is at least 3 months before travel. For U.S. citizens, passports will be mandatory effective December 31, 2006 and onwards for travel in Caribbean, Mexico and Canada.

Apply for your passport today!

•  Don't hand over to unauthorized personnel

•  Have a copy of first page and proof of U.S. citizenship in a separate location (in case it would get stolen)

Copies

•  Have copies of all important documents and travel aids

*Passport, tickets, traveler's checks, credit cards, visas

•  One with you and one at home in a safe place

Consult your physician and preplan for possible medical issues.


Prescriptions

•  Ask for generic name for medication in case there are translation barriers

•  Take a copy of eyeglass prescription

 

Medical

•  Any required shots, get well in advance of departure

•  Notify cruise/tour operator in advance of any medical needs

*Special diets, diabetic, wheelchair requests, etc

Insurance Options

•  Travel clause in your current personal insurance coverage

*Some cover personal injury, loss of baggage, jewelry riders, and medical abroad restrictions

Other

•  Leave phone numbers of hotel(s)/cruise line with family/friends, in case of emergency

•  Pack internationally calling cards to call family/friends

•  Wear all valuables/jewelry or keep them on you (in your purse carry-on)

•  Once you arrive at your hotel/ship, place all valuables in your in-room safe
